About this location
A Grade II listed former hall house with origins dating back to 1490.
The whole property has been sensitively extended, redesigned and completely restored. The original timbers have all been retained, and due to the incorporation of underfloor heating the walls have no radiators. There is a hand carved solid oak front door leading to a spacious reception hall with a flagstone floor. The two reception rooms on the ground floor both overlook the rear garden with a southerly aspect and each feature inglenook fireplaces in the form of an open fire in the dining room, and a log-burning stove with a working bread oven in the drawing room. The dining room is open-plan to include a bright sitting room area with french doors out to the garden.
The main house was sympathetically extended in 2012 to add the vaulted kitchen/breakfast room which includes an Edwin Loxley fitted kitchen, a Sub-Zero fridge and a five oven Aga. A hand crafted oak staircase leads to the first floor landing where a feature indoor window overlooks the kitchen.
The main bedroom is a vaulted room with windows to three walls and an en suite bath and shower room. There are three further bedrooms, all with views over the surrounding gardens.
The main house is complimented by a converted barn and a one bedroom cottage which form a three sided sheltered courtyard.
The barn has been fully restored and converted with underfloor heating beneath another flagstone floor, a large log-burning stove, and a mezzanine gallery. There is a separate fitted kitchen and bath and shower room. Bi-fold doors overlook the courtyard garden. The self-contained cottage comprises a spacious sitting room, kitchen/ breakfast room, double bedroom, bath/shower room, and its own utility room.
Gardens and Grounds
The property is accessed via a circular drive with parking for numerous cars in front of two bay barn style garaging. The gardens and grounds are planted with borders and beds, hedge boundaries and specimen trees, including many noble oaks, to form a stunning parkland. Around the house and main buildings, a formal area of lawn surrounds a rectangular ornamental pond with rose beds and a central water fountain. There is a natural pond adjacent to the entrance driveway, with a wooden deck/jetty.
Across the lawn to the south west of the house there is a swimming pool, with an electric solar cover, sheltered behind high hedges.
To the east, across another expanse of level lawn is an equestrian yard with a Scotts of Thurston stable building comprising six loose boxes, a rug room and secure tack room. Adjacent to the stables there is a 60m by 25m flood-lit sand school and a horse walker. Post and rail fenced paddocks lie alongside the yard where there is also extensive parking and a wide turning area for horse boxes and other vehicles. A substantial open sided barn provides under-cover storage. The yard can be accessed via a separate entrance and driveway passing three further paddocks and ancient woodland. Beyond the woodland there is a three acre wildflower meadow with more oak trees. Situation
